UPDATE: Mercury’s Wings – Found Objects

We’re not sure if these objects are related to Missing Mercury or his wings. If any of these objects belong to you or if you know the owner of any of them, please contact the authorities straight away.

Over the course of this weekend past, we received an unmarked package with the following objects enclosed:

• A small key with black cord (we believe it is silk)
• A tiny magnifying glass with same black cord
• A postcard postmarked 1936 from an airship called the Hindenberg
• Small Parchment with several strange rubbings
• Large parchment with orientation symbols, and strange large industrial watermarks

Once, there was a god of trade, thieves, & travel name Mercury. Inventor of the lyre and seen with the caduceus, it was told that he wore winged sandals as a messenger to guide and protect merchants, shepherds, gamblers, liars, and thieves.

However, one morning when Mercury happened upon a market, he found himself in the middle of a heated exchange. With an instant, Mercury disappeared and his wings torn from his feet.

We’re looking for the whereabouts of Mercury. If you know any information that can locate both he and his winged sandals, please alert the authorities. We will continue to bring you late breaking news as it arrives.

New Art: MarrakechCats Journals & Agendas

We’re having a bit of fun with our MarrakechCats in the workshop, can you tell?

Dreaming of another World filled with bazaars and their endless labyrinths filled with exotic textiles and spices with the hint of jasmine floating through the gardens… Beautiful lines of inspired textile design revealed a glimpse of the hidden elegant feline form within.

We’ve taken the Marrakech Cats into another World and applied them to suede. Soft and sumptuous, these one of a kind handmade journals will keep your secrets hidden. We find a complementary leather bookmark from our treasure of riches and attach it with a worn sexy metal rivet. New Art: Marrakech Cats Serigraphs

I’ve been working like a dog getting ready for Artsplosure designing new products… on fabric! Meanwhile, we’ve got just a few serigraphs (or pulled prints) as a result from registering our work as we print.

What’s a pulled print you ask?
A pulled print is also known as a serigraph or screen print and is a stenciling method. A serigraph must create a separate pattern for each color or blended color. Stencils can be cut from paper or film and adhered to the cloth (or the silkscreen) and areas can be blocked by masking to prevent paint to seep through. One to several shapes can be used to create the pattern design.

In my case, I use paper to help register the design onto the fabric that I’m printing. I want to ensure that the image is aligned with the parameters I’ve designed for the overall use and this can be a painstaking process. Because I have extra fine woven paper that I use for my CalligraphyPets prints and cards, I decided to have a bit of fun and use it. I love the softness of the metallic gold on the warm white paper. What a treat!

Sneak Peak: Tiny Green Leaf Suede with Distressed Buckskin Leather

While you’re out sunning yourself silly, Andrew and I have been trying to stay cool in our workshop building hot new accessories for you!

We asked if you wanted a sneak peak and you answered with a resounding yes -so enjoy!

We found a hide of distressed buckskin leather and wanted to match it with a deep sumptuous suede. The buckskin is so incredibly soft and supple, we can’t stop fondling it. Capitalizing on the leaf pattern, we’ve created a tiny silhouette pattern that just sings with subtlety. You have to see this in person to appreciate the sheen of this new calligraphic image.

We’re taking these to NYC with us this weekend and introducing them to our favorite gallery -we know she’ll love them. We’ll let you know what she says and when you can begin purchasing them from her.

PawpArt: The Royal Puss

Bacchus (the FatCat) insisted he wear a crown -don’t ask me why. I told him that if he insists on wearing a crown, I’m adding hearts to it -he had no choice but to acquiesce. Suddenly, he wanted a sash, epaulets -I don’t think he even knows what an epaulet is- gauntlet and a cape. Go figure. The cat wants a cape, like a mouseketeer. Can you imagine Bacchus running around with the feather in his mouth, howling and tripping over his cape?

Of course, he wouldn’t listen to reason. I explained that Edna from The Incredibles wouldn’t design him a cape because they’re too dangerous. Then he reminded me of his first Holiday Season with us.
