When Piedmont Craftsmen posted a creative call to their artists, we answered. It’s an opportunity for us as artists to generate a one of a kind piece only limited to imaginations. The theme of this call is “Things with Wings.”
I found myself responding to the call with an idea of doing some kind of DaVinci meets paper air planes mashup on the inside of a techbag. As soon as I thought I was finished with that description, my genius came out of no where and hit me in the back of the head with a frying pan. “Or….” I continued, “I could create a really cool little clutch. Think Mercury’s Wings meet Steampunk.” Nicole responded with intrigue.
Honestly, I had no idea where that came from but I knew exactly how it was to look.
My Piece: “Mercury’s Wings”

With all of the trapping of the subgenre steampunk, this leather clutch includes a tiny compass, magnifying glass, and vintage key. It also includes a small brochure with clues on how to reunite Mercury and his missing wings.
Do you like adventures? If you’d like to learn more about how to solve the riddle, please join us at the gallery -I’d love to meet you.

Remember when we told you about our fun with costume design last year? Specifically creating super-hero masks for a student film? Well, how would you like your own super hero Volcano Girl mask?

Because we can’t get enough of the movies, we’re helping out Ashley Maria with her Volcano Girl Kickstarter Program this month. You may remember that we sent handcrafted leather bags to be featured in her film along with other elegant products. Ashley tells me that they created the kitchen scene featuring my wine coasters, wall art and more!
Additionally, when I heard it was about a fallen Super hero, I just had to make her mask!!
Like any start up or small business, Ashley needs funds to market her project to get seen in front of many viewers and gain exposure to future investors. She’s only a few days from her deadline and could really use support from you who enjoy a little bit of super hero fun. With a number of investment tiers, Ashley has created many ways that you can get involved. Eleven (11) pledge opportunities are available and start at only $10.
Where do I fit in? If you want to tap into your own inner hero and want a mask of your own, become a firestarter and invest in The Disguise. For each one of you who invests in The Disguise tier, you will get a mask of your own handcrafted by Lisa -that’s me!!
Ashley and her crew only have a few days remaining before her program expires. Will you help?
Read more about Volcano Girl on Kickstarter.
Thanks so much!

NYIGF is a fashion forward, trend driven biannual show held in NYC. After weeks of working like Orks collaborating with our new partners, Rennie & Rose, we were finally able to see a few fruits of our labor.

It was a very surreal experience being able to see my designs on products other than those I design and build myself. I am exhilarated with the notion that the pure breed line will continue to build over the course of many years on several different products. You can look forward to pillows, throws, totes, placemats, and tablerunners to start and will be available at the end of September.

The last few weeks I’ve been working on a slew of illustrations for a NYC publication and naturally, the Statue of Liberty had to get included. Timely, don’tcha say?

Woo-hoo! Doing the dance of joy!
Okay, so it was thru Urban Dictionary that I got published, but nonetheless, it’s hilarious!

Beer Image Available for Licensing.
Word: Beerrand
Definition: Going to the store to buy more beer.
Used in a sentence: Honey, we’re out of Heineken! Can you go on a beerrand for us?
It was a funny and happy accident that this word came about, but I’ll have to thank SuzeMuse for the inspiration.
SCPA: Treble Clef Auction Logo
Second Chance wanted an emblem to represent a jazz theme. Their initial idea was to include several elements of what jazz meant to them: saxaphones, piano, musical notes, mardi gras etc. While it’s a challenge to get clients to understand the difference between an illustration and a logo, the idea of music needed to be strongly conveyed. Fortunately, to have a client like Second Chance who understands that bringing a myriad of ideas to the illustrator/designer and allowing the designer to rearrange and edit, strengthens dialog and trust.
My solution was to embrace both cat and dog into the shape of a treble clef. The colors currently represent the Mardi Gras but the elegant lines of the treble clef provides longevity, allowing Second Chance to implement the logo in all manners of music. In the future, SC can change their music theme from caribbean jazz, latin jazz, the blues, ragtime, big band, even classical.

Terms of Commission
The great thing about a commission is that you are getting a one of a kind original from me based on your request. You are paying for the painting, however not the copyright.

I’ve chosen a NE Wind Symphony as part of my non-profit work this year. They’ve asked me to help them redesign their logo as well as Web site -it helps to have friends who can count on me to do quality design work for them. First things first, I prioritize the work ahead and begin on their logo.
Because my illustrations begin as clean and elegant icons, I thought it would be prudent to augment a bit of their logo/ID with calligraphic enhancement. It takes the experienced designer’s eye to maintain the real objective: Identity. Otherwise, it’s easy to cross the line and begin to begin fanciful illustrations and suddenly lose sight.
Below, you’ll find 2 design comps I provided to my client.
Logo 1 This calligraphic logo was meant to highlight both the wind instruments and the initial H for Hanover. The bells of the horns create a harmonious knot at the center and represent the bar of the ‘H’. |
Logo 2 This calligraphic logo highlights the unsung hero of the orchestra: the baritone. The bell of the baritone points upward while the valve continues as the bar into the capital H. |
The Brief Process: All logos are done in black and white. Later, when the logo has been chosen, it gets treated further with the bells and whistles adapted from the client’s profile based on it’s business and marketing plan.
Final Logo Ultimately, HWS chose the adaptation of the unsung hero; I happen to think the director has an affinity for baritones, but I love it just the same. I believe this logotype will give them the classic strength, mnenomic unity, and sophisticated resonance within the community. |

We’re extremely delighted that you love my unique style.
We’ve decided to augment our business and share our elegant and sophisticated style by creating logos for you because of the many urgent requests we receive. Working together, we’ll provide the most elegant, imaginative, and professional ID system you’ve come to expect from us. We’re eager to learn how we can bring you the ultimate solution in well-planned, meaningful design. |
A couple things to note:
* As a professional design studio, we will begin by interviewing you and your business plans.
* Planning & developing any logo/ID system takes time -upwards of six weeks or so.
* Because of current and ongoing relationships with our private and public clients, we cannot provide images of our cats and some dogs as part of your logo development.
Theory & Application: The Process of Crafting Your Identity
Logos need to remain crystal clear in their purpose: to succinctly represent the company or event with meaningful wholeness. Illustrations are good framed and hanging on one’s wall.
Typically, my designs begin as clean and elegant icons, thus, lending themselves eagerly to Logo/ID systems. It’s crucial to remember that an illustration makes a logo -not! It takes the experienced designer’s eye to maintain the real objective: Identity. Otherwise, it’s easy to cross the line and begin to begin fanciful illustrations and suddenly lose sight.
Additionally, the logo is only just ‘a part’ of the ID system. When addressing the whole company, integrating and representing every aspect of the uniqueness of your company evolves into a holistic and effective system.
After our interview, I begin to assemble myriad of ideas to highlight and support your business’ brand. Allowing me to rearrange the elements brought to the table during our discussion, strengthens dialog and trust.
I realize that it’s scary to hand over your identity to another -a virtual stranger. As your designer, we’ll maintain dialog throughout the project, keeping you updated, allaying any anxiety you might have.

Bacchus (the FatCat) insisted he wear a crown -don’t ask me why. I told him that if he insists on wearing a crown, I’m adding hearts to it -he had no choice but to acquiesce. Suddenly, he wanted a sash, epaulets -I don’t think he even knows what an epaulet is- gauntlet and a cape. Go figure. The cat wants a cape, like a mouseketeer. Can you imagine Bacchus running around with the feather in his mouth, howling and tripping over his cape?
Of course, he wouldn’t listen to reason. I explained that Edna from The Incredibles wouldn’t design him a cape because they’re too dangerous. Then he reminded me of his first Holiday Season with us.
Bold and colorful, my calligraphic line takes a contemporary twist influenced by PopArt. Elegant and sophisticated, this new series will fill your abode with wit and charm.
The Blue Don: The Inaugural FatCat
Bacchus continues to expand his weight in a sassy and bold style, evolving into a bright acrylic form of color and line. When the alpha cat ages, so does his attitude. Bacchus believes he is now ‘The Blue Don.’
