Inspiration Color Board – Archaic Moroccan
When I visited the Mediterranean many years ago, I was in complete awe of the watery hues that overwhelmed me. The phthalo blue that’s known as the ‘Mediterranean blue’ cast a net into my senses, pulling me into a sea-blue abyss of richness and wonder.
As you can see, I captured the vibrant rich hues and transposed them onto this Marrakech Cats journal. The sandy base suede beckons to be touched and caressed.
I’ve captured both vibrant and muted tones from this photo to show you how you can cultivate your own home using these palettes. I’ve created a guide for both guys and ladies on how to balance both color and space for your abode. Please download the chart shown above for your personal use.
How to use this color chart:
If you’re a guy, you’ll probably lean toward the blues and greens -and that’s great. Just remember to offset the weightiness of the dark hues with a punch of color, this will add a sense of liveliness to your decor. Plus, you’ll want to balance your room with a bit a feminine charm to keep the yin and yang in check. If you live alone, a bit of organic shapes coupled with your rigid structures will harmonize and welcome in your female friends. If you’re already in a relationship, you’ll want to double check that there’s a bit of both in your space.
Ladies, typically you go a little heavy on the pastels -not that there’s anything wrong with that- but if you’re looking for a little male companionship, you’ll want anchor your airiness with a few dark accent pieces. Also consider adding balance to your ruching and ruffles with a little clean structure. Remember: Sleek lines can also be erotic.
How this translates into Your Space:
Applying Vibrant Hues
Wash your walls with hues from the Moroccan sunset and this will give you the energy you seek. Youthful and vibrant, this space is accented with blues grids and natural rattan textures. The arcs of the windows, door, and furniture offset the boldness of color and fireplace hood.
Applying Muted Hues
The muted blue takes on the feel of the well-travelled archeologist highlighted with pieces brought back from her trips. A bit of structured metal shown in the arm lamp and frame juxtapositioned with organic branches and end-table help to balance the yin & yang of her space. We just painted our dining room wall this color and it’s very cozy and embracing.
Who doesn’t love to be wrapped in muted tones of gold and sand? This earthy base keeps you grounded in your own rich cocoon with just a touch of Moroccan traditions. The long linear lines make the room feel tall and pull your eye up to the explosive ceiling design and burst of color accentuated in the hanging pendant. A great way to wake up in the morning.
